Before Game Warm-up
For maximum preparation before a game the players must arrive 45 minutes to an hour before the start of a match. To start off, do a short jog and do some run through's. Run through's are when there are 4 groups, one on each post, jog to the end of the square and back. Each time you do it you perform a different activity, these include jogging, sprinting, sidesteps, grapevine, lunges, leaping for marks, touching the ground, open and close the gates, high knees and kicking your bum. After the run through's the team will want to do some stretches in a circle with the captain in the middle leading the group. Then some lane kicking, criss cross handball and triangle drill for some kicking and hand balling practice. After finishing the drills bring the players in to the change rooms or sit them down for a pre game chat. This will cover things like positions, tactics, where to play and what to do in the match. It should last around 10-15 minutes depending on how much time you have. Then take the players back out onto the oval and do a light jog, some stretches, short kicks and handballs.
