How to Kick
Kicking is one of the main aspects of football. It is important not to lose possession of the ball whilst kicking, so it is crucial that the players can kick well. The main kicking style is the drop punt but less common kicking styles are the banana and the torpedo. DROP PUNT The drop punt is the most common kick where the ball is kicked straight and it spins backwards. It is used to take set shots and to kick straight. To perform a drop punt your fingers need to be evenly spread on each side of the ball with your thumbs extending to the top of the laces. You guide the ball down with your strong hand and your weak hand is just there for support. Use the same side of your body, right hand, right foot. The key is to release the ball as close as possible to your foot so it doesn't spin or muck up while it drops. Try to kick the ball at its lowest point for more power and accuracy. Don’t stab at the ball using your knee, swing your whole leg through keeping it straight. Also point your toes towards the target. The ball should hit your foot at the top of the shoelaces. Follow through straight towards your target for improved accuracy. When taking a set shot have a good balanced approach to the goals and leave plenty of room when kicking over the man on the mark. |
